Manual Lymphatic Drainage (MLD) is a gentle, specialised form of massage that uses light, flowing movements to encourage the natural movement of lymphatic fluid around the body.
Unlike a deep or traditional massage, MLD uses very little pressure. The gentle techniques can be deeply soothing, helping you to relax, unwind and enjoy some time for yourself.
Your lymphatic system plays an important role in moving excess fluid away from the tissues and back into circulation. Sometimes, fluid can build up when the lymphatic system is under pressure or isn't able to move fluid as effectively as usual. This can happen following surgery or injury, during periods of reduced movement, or with certain health conditions.
Manual Lymphatic Drainage encourages the natural movement of this fluid. This may help to ease feelings of swelling, puffiness, heaviness or congestion while supporting the natural function of your lymphatic system.
Swelling, puffiness or fluid build-up
Lymphoedema or lymphatic congestion
Swelling following surgery or certain medical procedures
Fibrosis or areas of tissue congestion
Swelling following certain injuries
Sinus congestion or headaches
Reoccuring common illness, ME or Glandular fever
Digestive discomfort or bloating
Muscle tension and general feelings of discomfort
Some people also choose lymphatic drainage during periods when they are feeling stressed, run down or simply in need of some time to relax and recharge.
You don't need to have a specific condition to benefit from lymphatic drainage. It can simply be a gentle way to support your body's natural processes and help it function more effectively.
Lymphatic drainage is a wonderfully gentle and calming treatment. We use a series of light, flowing techniques that follow the body's natural lymphatic pathways to encourage fluid movement.
The gentle nature of the treatment creates a soothing and deeply relaxing experience. The light, flowing techniques can help your body settle into a state of relaxation, leaving you feeling calm and peaceful. You may even find yourself drifting off during your session.
For the treatment to be carried out effectively, you will need to be comfortable lying flat on both your front and your back. The treatment works across the whole body, so it is carried out with you wearing underwear on your lower half. We will ensure you are appropriately covered throughout, with your comfort, privacy and modesty always respected.
If you have recently had surgery, are receiving ongoing medical treatment or have a diagnosed lymphatic condition, please speak to your healthcare professional if you are unsure whether MLD is suitable for you.
If you're unsure whether lymphatic drainage is right for you, we offer a free pre-treatment consultation, giving you the opportunity to talk through your needs and ask any questions before deciding whether to book.
Whether you're looking for support with swelling or fluid movement, recovering from a procedure, experiencing feelings of heaviness or congestion, or simply want to enjoy a deeply relaxing treatment, Manual Lymphatic Drainage could be a gentle and supportive addition to your wellbeing.
