Structural Integration

Soft Tissue Realignment From Head to Toe

Structural Integration is a form of bodywork designed to help you relax, re-educate your muscles and change how you move.

Structural Integration comprises a series of 12 treatments that work on the myofascial network of the body. Fascia, or connective tissue, is a tough, strong, fibrous tissue. All of our muscles, organs, nerves, and blood vessels are sheathed in this connective tissue and tendons and ligaments are made up of it.

When connective tissue is healthy it is pliable and elastic providing the flexibility which allows the muscles, tendons, and ligaments to shorten and lengthen during activity. Unhealthy connective tissue is thicker, harder and much less resilient and it shortens which significantly effects how our muscles and joints function, and ultimately how we feel.

Chronic pain neck aches, back aches, stiffness, poor posture and discomfort in the body are often the result of these structural imbalances. By addressing the myofascial network Structural Integration is a very effective treatment of chronic postural problems and ineffective movement patterns.

The first four sessions treat the superficial sleeve of the body which are the muscles concerned with movement, but often compensate for weaknesses/ imbalances in our core/deeper muscles. The second four sessions re-engage our core muscles that are responsible for maintaining our posture. The last four sessions look at integrating these two layers together so they work as a whole entity, not a series of parts.
